What is offsite backup?

Offsite backup keeps a copy of your data in a separate physical location from your live systems, so an incident at your premises (fire, theft, hardware failure, ransomware) can't destroy your data and your backups together. We hold your offsite copy in our ISO 27001 Sheffield data centre.

Why does my business need offsite backup?

Because local backups share the same risks as your live data. A fire, flood, theft or a ransomware strain that spreads to your NAS can take out both at once. An offsite copy is the one that survives, and it's the foundation of the widely used 3-2-1 backup rule and of any real disaster-recovery plan.

What is the 3-2-1 backup rule?

Keep three copies of your data, on two different types of media, with at least one copy offsite. The offsite copy is the safety net for a site-wide disaster. Our offsite backup options provide that one offsite copy, however you prefer to run it.

How can I do offsite backup with HA Hosting?

Three ways. Managed, via Veeam Cloud Connect, where we host your offsite Veeam repository. As a DIY storage target, via our S3-compatible object storage, where you point your own backup software at our UK storage. Or custom, on your own virtual server with our storage attached, built however you like. All are UK-hosted with no egress fees.

Can I keep using Veeam?

Yes. With Veeam Cloud Connect we host your offsite repository and you carry on using Veeam as normal. Or you can point Veeam Backup & Replication at our S3 object storage as a capacity tier. Either way your existing Veeam setup stays in place.

Where is my offsite backup stored?

In our own ISO 27001 certified data centre in Sheffield, with UK data residency. Your data does not leave the UK, and the same UK team that runs the data centre supports your backup.

Are there egress or download fees?

No. There are no egress fees on any of our offsite backup options, so restoring data or running a disaster-recovery test costs nothing extra. Pricing is in GBP and fixed for your contract term.

Which option should I choose?

If you're on Veeam and want it handled for you, choose Veeam Cloud Connect. If you want to keep control and point your own tools at UK storage, choose S3 object storage.
