When it comes to moving into your Half Rack Colocation in our Data Centre, we'll be on hand to help you get settled in and up and running as fast and as smooth as possible. Also included is remote hands for up to 15 minutes a day, during office hours, meaning we can fix issues for you without you having to be here – particularly useful if you’re a bit of a trek away. Remote hands support is also available for out of office hours (subject to charge) .

How much is half rack colocation in the UK?
Our half rack colocation is £645 a month and includes 21U of full-length rack space in a lockable cabinet, a block of 16 IPv4 addresses, two 1 Gbit/s network ports, 400 Mbit/s of unlimited internet, 6 Amps of inclusive power, A/B power feeds from separate UPS units, a fully managed firewall and a site-to-site VPN. Extra power is £0.40 per kWh with no setup fee.
Where is the half rack data centre?
In our Sheffield ISO 27001 data centre, which has N+1 cooling, hot and cold aisle containment, A/B power from separate UPS feeds, backup generators that take over automatically, 24/7 monitoring, two-factor access control, full CCTV and smoke, fire and intruder alarms. Fibre uplinks run to London Telehouse North and Lumen in Manchester, with BGP peering across multiple carriers.
How many servers fit in a 21U half rack?
A 21U half rack typically holds 8 to 15 1U or 2U servers, plus a switch, a firewall (or use our managed one), a UPS if you want one, and a backup target. It's sized to give a growing team about 18 months of headroom without committing to a full cabinet. If you've outgrown a quarter rack but a full rack feels like over-buying, a half is usually the right call.
What's the difference between a quarter rack and a half rack?
A quarter rack is 10U, a half is 21U. The half rack also gets a larger IP block (16 vs 8), A/B redundant power, twice the inclusive power allowance (6 Amps vs 3) and a dedicated lockable cabinet. The hub data centre, ISO 27001 environment, 24/7 access and managed firewall are identical. The half rack costs about £310 more per month and gives you over twice the space and meaningfully more redundancy.
Can I upgrade from a half rack to a full rack later?
Yes. Upgrading from a half to a full rack is a same-day move within the same cabinet. Same IPs, same cables, no migration window. We see customers do this when they hit ~18U of usage or when a project lands that needs the headroom. You're not locked in to a full rack you might not fill on day one.
Can I access my half rack 24/7?
Yes. Half rack customers have 24/7 secure access using two-factor entry (key fob and PIN). Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm, when the engineering team is on-site. Out of hours access for emergencies is available on a callout charge. The on-site break area has network, power, tea, coffee and a toilet, so longer visits are comfortable.
Can I add virtual servers to my half rack colocation?
Yes. We see half rack customers pair their physical kit with one or more virtual servers from our KVM cloud. Common pattern: storage-heavy or licensed apps on dedicated hardware in the rack, web and dev/staging on virtual servers. Same data centre, same network, same support team.
