How pay-as-you-go power works
Most UK colocation providers sell power in fixed bands. You pick 0.5A, 1A or 2A, and pay the band price whether you use it or not. We do it differently.
Your £52.50 includes the first 0.5 Amps (about 130 kWh a month at 240V). Whatever your server pulls above that, we meter through the rack PDU, calculate at £0.40 per kWh and itemise on your invoice. No tier-jumping, no overage penalty, no incentive for us to over-provision.
In practice, an efficient 1U or 2U server with light to moderate utilisation often stays inside the included allowance. A heavier 4U with multiple busy drives or older CPUs may add £10 to £30 to the monthly bill. We send usage reports so there are no surprises.
Free remote hands, during office hours
Colocation gets called "self-service hosting", but reality is that hands occasionally need to be on the hardware. We give you 15 minutes of free remote hands every working day, by request through your client portal or a phone call.
That's enough for the usual asks: power cycle a stuck server, check status lights, reseat a cable, swap a hot-spare drive, take a photo of a misbehaving display. If a job needs more than 15 minutes, we agree the time up front. Out-of-hours emergency access is available at an hourly callout rate.
Our Sheffield ISO 27001 data centre
We operate our own data centre in Holbrook, Sheffield. Not a reseller of someone else's space, not a partnership-by-different-name. Your server is racked, powered, cooled and monitored by the same UK team you talk to on the phone.
Network
Fibre uplinks to London Telehouse North and Lumen in Manchester. As RIPE members we run our own IP ranges and peer over BGP across multiple Tier 1 carriers. Inside, hot and cold aisle containment keeps temperatures stable.
Power
Two-phase UK supply with A/B feeds from separate UPS units. Backup generators come online automatically if the National Grid drops for more than a few seconds. UPS covers the transfer window, so your server never sees the interruption.
Security and compliance
Two-factor access control (electronic key fob plus PIN). Internal and external CCTV. Smoke, fire and intruder alarms. ISO 27001 certification renewed annually, covering physical security, power, cooling and access management. Certificate available on request for your auditor.
What servers we accept for single-server colocation
We take a wider range of hardware than most UK data centres:
- 1U, 2U and 4U rack servers from HP, Dell, Supermicro, Lenovo and similar. Bring your rails or we'll fit ours.
- Tower servers if they have a tower-to-rack rail kit. If not, get in touch and we'll advise on a low-cost shelf or chassis swap.
- Low-power mini PCs such as Mac mini, Intel NUC and similar. These sit on a shelf and draw very little power, so they cost less to run.

- Configure and order online. Choose 1U, 2U or 4U, set your starting power allowance, add any extra IPs or network ports. Pay your first month, no setup fee.
- Get your server to us. Ship it or drop it at our Sheffield facility during office hours. We'll provide IP details in advance so you can pre-configure.
- We rack, cable and test. Once your server arrives we install it, connect power and network, check it boots, and confirm everything is reachable. You take it from there.

Where is your single server colocation data centre?
In our own ISO 27001 facility in Holbrook, Sheffield, not far from the city centre. We own and operate the building, so the engineering team in the data centre is the same team you talk to on the phone or by ticket. Fibre uplinks run to London Telehouse North and Lumen in Manchester with BGP peering across multiple Tier 1 carriers.
Can I access my server 24/7?
Yes. Single server colocation customers have 24/7 secure access using two-factor entry (electronic key fob plus PIN). During UK business hours the team is on-site and can meet you. Out-of-hours emergency access is available at an hourly callout charge. There's a break area on-site with power, network, tea, coffee and a toilet for longer visits.
How is power charged and what if my server uses more than 0.5 Amps?
Power is metered pay-as-you-go. The first 0.5 Amps (about 130 kWh a month at 240V) is included in the £52.50 monthly price. Yes. Upgrading from single server colocation to a quarter, half or full rack is a same-day move within the same cabinet. No new IPs, no migration window, no downtime once the additional space is ready. You only ever pay for the size you need today, with a clear path to grow when the workload demands it.
How quickly can my server be racked and live?
Typically within one working day of arriving at our Sheffield facility. We provide IP details in advance so you can pre-configure the server before shipping. Once it arrives we install it in the rack, connect power and network, check it boots and confirm it's reachable. If anything looks off during install we'll call you before changing anything.
