Rack Colocation Support FAQs
How-to and operational answers for HA Hosting Rack Colocation customers (quarter, half and full racks). If your question isn't here, raise a ticket from the HA Portal.
How do I check my current power draw and rack capacity?
Log in to the HA Portal to see live power readings for your rack at any time, including amp draw across both feeds, your contracted allowance and your current headroom. No need to raise a ticket for routine checks. If you're regularly pulling above 80% of your contracted power, talk to us about uprating before you hit the ceiling, especially before adding new servers to the rack.
How do I add or remove staff from my approved access list?
Raise a ticket via the HA Portal with the names you want added or removed, copies of photo ID for new approvers, and confirmation of who at your end is authorising the change. Quarter, half and full rack customers get unescorted access to their own rackspace once on the approved list, so any approved staff member can work in your rack on their own. We'll process additions within one working day. Keep your access list current, removing leavers is part of your ISO 27001 obligations, not just good practice.
How do I order a cross-connect between racks?
We provide and control all carrier connectivity into the data centre, so cross-connects to external carriers aren't sold separately. If you need a physical link between your own racks, or to another HA Hosting customer (with their agreement), raise a ticket with the source and destination cabinets, the media (single-mode fibre, multi-mode, copper) and the port speed. Allow up to 5 working days for install. There's a one-off install charge plus a small monthly fee, current pricing on request. Once installed you can manage the patch yourself on a scheduled site visit or via remote hands.
How do I install or remove equipment in my own rack?
Quarter, half and full rack customers have unescorted access to their own rackspace and can add or remove servers and equipment whenever it suits, no advance booking required. On arrival, all attendees need photo ID at reception and sign the visitor log. Bring your own rack screws, cage nuts and cables (we sell standard parts on-site if you forget). We provide a workspace bench and trolleys for unboxing and moving heavy hardware. Power billing is automatic, you don't need to tell us what you've added or removed for billing purposes (although a heads-up helps us plan capacity). If you want us to fit and cable the gear instead, that's a remote hands job; raise the ticket with a rack diagram showing where each U should go.
How do I expand my rack space if I'm running out of U or kW?
Raise a ticket and we'll look at three options. First, uprate your existing rack's power allowance if you have U headroom but are bumping the kW ceiling. Second, add an adjacent quarter or half rack if you have room to grow horizontally; quarter and half racks are usually easier to add quickly. Third, upgrade to the next size (quarter to half, half to full) by physically migrating to a larger cabinet during an agreed maintenance window. We'll quote each option and help you pick based on power, cabling and migration risk.
