UK Backup Storage, Ceph-Backed, in Our Sheffield Data Centre
Backup Storage Per-TB, encrypted backup storage in our ISO 27001 Sheffield data centre. Point any backup software at it through your dedicated VM, or run your backup tool inside the VM itself.
Is Backup Storage right for you?
You want a UK-resident backup target for any backup tool
Backup Storage for your current backup software, Veeam, Acronis, Duplicati, restic, or anything else? Point it at our Ceph-backed storage through your dedicated VM. Works with any backup software that can talk to a Windows or Linux mount, S3, or rsync.
You need UK-stored backups for compliance
Data sovereignty matters when your backups contain customer records, financial data, or anything covered by GDPR. Our storage lives in our ISO 27001 Sheffield data centre. UK-based, UK-managed, no AWS or Azure region puzzles. End-to-end encryption is on by default.
You want a real human if recovery goes wrong
The point of offsite backups is being able to restore. When that day comes you donu2019t want a ticket queue. You want the engineer who runs the storage on the phone. UK business hours, typically a 3-ring answer. Out of hours, on-call cover for emergencies.
How Backup Storage Works
Backup Storage gives you a dedicated VM in our Sheffield data centre with Ceph-backed storage attached, sized by the TB. Run your existing backup software inside the VM (Veeam Agent, Acronis, Duplicati, restic, Macrium, whatever fits) or expose the storage as a drive target for an on-prem backup server to push to.
All data is held in the UK on equipment we own. You can use this storage to restore from, or for Disaster Recovery, alongside our DRaaS offering.
It removes the cost and complexity of running your own offsite storage infrastructure. You keep using whatever backup tool you already trust.
Storage runs on HP hardware with Ceph software-defined storage. Ceph (pronounced /u02c8su025bf/) is an open-source storage platform that implements object storage on a single distributed cluster, with 3-in-1 interfaces for object, block, and file-level storage.

UK Backup Storage FAQs
Common questions about Pro Backup Storage in our Sheffield data centre.
How much does UK backup storage cost?
Our Pro Backup Storage starts at £20.00 per TB per month, billed in 1TB increments so you only pay for what you actually need. The price includes a dedicated VM for your backup tooling on our Ceph-backed storage in our ISO 27001 Sheffield data centre. End-to-end encryption is on by default and there are no setup fees. Veeam Cloud Connect licences may be required if you're connecting Veeam Backup & Replication directly.
What backup software works with HA Hosting Backup Storage?
Anything that can write to a Windows or Linux mount, an S3 endpoint, or via rsync over SSH. Customers run Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Agent, Acronis Cyber Backup, Macrium Reflect, Duplicati, restic, Borg, Bacula, Windows Server Backup and plain rsync scripts. If your tool can talk to a network share or an S3 endpoint, it will work.
Where is my backup data stored?
On our Ceph cluster in our own ISO 27001 Sheffield data centre. UK-resident, UK-managed by our own engineering team. End-to-end encryption is on by default. Sovereignty matters when your backups contain customer records, financial data or anything covered by GDPR, so no AWS or Azure region puzzles and no overseas data trips.
What's the difference between Backup Storage and Veeam Cloud Connect?
Both run on the same Ceph cluster in our Sheffield data centre. Backup Storage gives you a dedicated VM you can run any backup tool inside, or expose as a drive or S3 endpoint for your on-prem backup server to push to. Veeam Cloud Connect is a pre-configured cloud repository specifically for Veeam Backup & Replication users, with no VM to manage. If you already use Veeam B&R, Cloud Connect is usually the simpler option.
How do I get my data into your backup storage?
Two main routes. You can install your backup software inside the dedicated VM and let it write straight to the attached Ceph storage. Or expose the storage as a network share or S3 endpoint and have your on-prem backup server push to it over the internet. Most customers prefer the push model so the orchestration stays on-site, with our storage acting purely as the offsite copy.
Can I get offsite copies of my backups?
Yes. We can replicate your Backup Storage to our second UK data centre for offsite redundancy at SME pricing. Useful if your primary site goes offline, or you want a separate UK copy outside Sheffield for compliance reasons. Talk to us about RPO and RTO targets and we'll configure replication to suit.
How quickly can I get started with Backup Storage?
Typically within one working day of confirming sizing. We provision the dedicated VM, attach your Ceph-backed storage and send connection details, then your team can start writing backups straight away. No hardware to ship, no engineer call-out, no waiting weeks for capacity. Monthly contract, scale up or down in 0.5 TB steps as your retention grows.
Have a question about Veeam offsite backup or how to keep you VM replicas on the cloud, just ask us.
Glossary
Data and Metadata
Data is the information itself where as Metadata is information about the data such as size, type, creation time etc.
GUID
Globally Unique Identifier, a refererence unique to the item used by computer systems to keep track of items
Object storage or object based storage
Manages storage as objects as opposed to files and folders or data blocks within sectors. Object storage includes the data. metadata and a GUID (Globally Unique Identifier)
DRaaS
Disaster Recovery as a Service, a complete service that protects data and makes it availble to use when it is required.DRaas is available with several options of software and hardware plans.
Backup
Also refered to as a Data Backup is a task that creates a backup copy of the data, which are added backup files, which can be used to restore the original data.
They can be, run manually, scheduled once or at regular intervals.
Cloud Gateways
We use cloud gateway appliances that act as communication points, routing commands and traffic between the your Veeam backup server and our Veeam infrastructure.
Virtual Machines
A virtual machine or VM is the virtualization/emulation of a computer system. Virtual machines are based on computer architectures and provide functionality of a physical computer that runs as software.
Cloud Computing or Cloud Service
Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources, especially data storage (cloud storage) and computing power, without direct active management by the user. Cloud computing relies on sharing of resources which can help in reducing capital expenses.
Hybrid Cloud
Using a combination of a public cloud and a private infrastrucuture environment for virtualisation is referred to as Hybrid Cloud. The use of on premises resources is referred to as private cloud and anything that can be bought as a service is public cloud. Using a combination can be beneficial giving the best of both solutions.
Backup Repository
A backup repository is data storage made available to a backup job, they can be at different locations and for specific backup software. VCC connects you to our backup storage for your exsiting Veeam backup jobs.
VM replicas
A virtual machine exists as a single file, when you back that file up and keep a copy in a remote location. If you have compute resources available you can run that VM at the second location. The combination of offsite data storage and compute resources is referred to as a VM Replica to distinguish from a plain backup.
Offsite backup
Any solution that protects your data and keeps a copy in a second location. This used to be accomplished by having physical tapes collected each day and stored in a secure remote location. This days with the speed of network connectivity and the pervasiveness of the internet offsite is much easier and quicker.
